HI!
I enjoyed meeting you both and getting to talk shop - both astronomy and graphics. It's so nice to talk to someone that has a clue about what I'm talking about! i look forward to working with you both in the future - what little i know of your work sounds fascinating.
I've been getting the files you sent. there is a lot to digest on formatting - so i thought I'd give you a cheat sheet:
Single images go into starry night:
1. must be powers of two only
2. best format is tiff - no compression (simple graphics, text can be jpeg)
3. resolution of 200 ppi max
4. i have control of size, dome placement, etc.
5. all images should be on true black backgrounds (corel has a special button for true black - the black on the color swatches is not true and shows as dark gray on the dome)
6. the system automatically adjusts for keystoning
Quick time files go into starry night
1. planar rgb
2. .mov files only
3. there are no power of two restrictions on the movie box size
4. size, placement on the dome, etc is in my hands
5. true black backgrounds will disappear on the dome
6. the system automatically adjusts for keystoning.
3d animation system:
1. series of sequential targas only
2. 30 frames per second
3. 2048 x 1536
4. 96 ppi
5. glom corrects for keystoning
I've been trying to copy the images you sent to get enough for at least a brief glimpse on the dome. I'm not sure the system will take files named "copy of ..." so I'll run a test in the morning and let you know.
If you have any questions, please give me a call at 838-2252.
talk to you soon
Pamela
